Birthday celebrations set in motion with “enjoyable” and “informative” tour

Tours of our independent cinema went down well
Visitors enjoying the 3D experience

Over 300 people got the chance to go behind-the-scenes of a traditional working picture house last weekend (Friday 9 to Sunday 11 September) as we put on special tours as part of our 75th birthday celebrations.

The popular tours, which were fully booked from Friday to Sunday, saw guests treated to demonstrations of a traditional 35mm projector before experiencing a 3D film clip (with a free sample of popcorn and 3D Glasses!) in the grand 450-seated Screen One. Josh Tidy of First Garden City Heritage Museum then gave a brief insight into the history of cinema in Letchworth Garden City with an illustrated talk in the cinema’s cosy 50-seated Screen Four.

Photos of the tour can be seen by visiting our Facebook page!

The tours were well received by visitors, with many visitors particularly enjoying Josh’s talk. We would like to thank all visitors for taking the time to come and see us. Here are a few of the visitors comments...

"This was an excellent initiative, and I'd recommend you do more of them! Really enjoyed it. "

“Really enjoyable event - lovely to be able to see 'behind the scenes' and to find out about the history of cinema in Letchworth. Many thanks.”

“Extremely interesting and informative. Things have certainly moved on from my brief stint of cinema projecting in the mid 1960's! Thank you for the opportunity.”

"Wonderful tour, great customer service, really enjoyed ollie's talk and Josh's talk on the history. Very efficient. Thank you very much for giving the public a lovely free tour!"
