We bring ‘The Artist’ to Letchworth

The Artist

Our team is very happy to announce that The Artist will be hitting our screens from Friday 17th February. Demand for the silent film began as far back as November last year, so it is great news all round.

The Artist is set in Hollywood, 1927. Silent movie star George Valentin is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood who wonders if the arrival of talking pictures will cause him to fade into oblivion. As George Valentin’s world is turned upside down, he sparks with Peppy Miller, a young dancer set for a big break.

With the success of the film demand inevitably increased and we received a number of tweets enquiring about The Artist:

“Pleased to see The Artist pick up awards at the New York Circle Awards. Looking forward to seeing it. Is @Broadway_Cinema to show it?” – 30 Nov

“I wonder if 'The Artist' is coming to @Broadway_Cinema ? Hope so.” – 22 Jan

Demand was present all over, and the film distributor had only a limited number of prints which couldn't meet the amazing demand. It was a struggle to get the film to Letchworth but we're really pleased we managed it and The Artist will be showing with us during the BAFTA’s and Oscars where it hopes to do well for ‘Best Film’.

To coincide with bringing one of the most original films of the year to Letchworth we will be hosting a competition with Bryony Dixon’s ‘100 silent films’ (Courtesy of BFI Publishing) and a couple of tickets to see The Artist up for grabs. The competition will be live very soon so keep an eye out for our updates.
