We bring ‘The Artist’ to Letchworth

The Artist

Our team is very happy to announce that The Artist will be hitting our screens from Friday 17th February. Demand for the silent film began as far back as November last year, so it is great news all round.

The Artist is set in Hollywood, 1927. Silent movie star George Valentin is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood who wonders if the arrival of talking pictures will cause him to fade into oblivion. As George Valentin’s world is turned upside down, he sparks with Peppy Miller, a young dancer set for a big break.

A picture of Angela Rippon and Ollie Thompson at Broadway Cinema

The beeb was the place to be on Wednesday night!

Our very own Broadway Cinema Team, including Ollie Thompson (above) featured on a brand new BBC One show on Wednesday (14 December) which investigated the things in modern Britain that drive us all mad. Angela Rippon starred as a guest presenter for an episode of ‘That’s Britain’, working at our traditional Box Office serving customers face-to-face comparing it to online bookings, filmed back in October.

Letchworth schools take to our big screen

School Kids Enjoy National Schools Film Week

Last week, we hosted ten Letchworth Garden City schools as they watched a free film to support learning in the classroom.

This is the second year the we’ve taken part in National Schools Film Week and this year, over 1,600 children, teachers and parents visited the cinema; more than double last year’s attendance.

September's competition winner

September's competition winner, Sharon McCafferty

Congratulations to Sharon McCafferty for winning September’s competition!

We asked “In ‘The Adventures of Tintin’, what is the name Tintin's dog?” for a chance for one lucky applicant to win a 12 month subscription to Empire magazine. Sharon had her name pulled from a hat from over 200 entrants after she correctly answered “Snowy” to this month's question to win the prize.

TV celebrity to ‘take your call’

Angela Rippon will be working at Broadway Cinema on Thursday 6 October

This Thursday, (6 October) former BBC News presenter Angela Rippon will be working at our cinema as part of a new primetime BBC 1 series.

The show, to air during November and December, investigates whether the many modern systems designed to save us time and money actually make our lives any better or are just infuriatingly difficult to use. We offer a traditional Box Office telephone service, a practice almost resigned to the history books, and was happy to get involved with the programme.
